When storage helps
Most people use storage during a move for one of a few reasons: a chain delay leaves a gap between homes, they're downsizing, they're renovating before moving in, or they want to declutter before putting the house on the market.
When to book
As soon as your dates firm up. You can book online and, once your booking is active, start moving things in straight away. There's no need to wait for an appointment or collect keys.
Working out how much space you need
Count your large items first: beds, sofas, wardrobes, white goods. Then estimate boxes, roughly 10 to 15 per room for an average home. If you're not sure, choose a bit more space than you think, as squeezing things in makes access harder.
- One-bed flat: a small to medium unit is often enough
- Two to three-bed house: usually a medium to large unit
- Full four-bed house: often a large unit or container
What to keep out
Keep important documents, medicines, valuables and anything you'll need in the first few days with you rather than in storage.
Moving day tips
