Preparing furniture for storage
- Clean and fully dry everything first
- Dismantle beds and tables where you can, and bag the fittings
- Use breathable covers rather than sealed plastic on upholstery
- Stand mattresses flat or on their side, not bent
- Leave a small gap between items and the walls
Short or long term
Some people store a sofa for a few weeks during decorating. Others keep inherited furniture for years. Either way, the same packing principles apply.
